Elkin Alston Archaeology Camp at Fort Frederica
Due to generous donations from the Elkin Alston family, Fort Frederica will once again host summer archaeology camp. This year we will have two weeks of camp. The dates for this year’s camp are June 17th-June 21st and June 24th-June 28th. Archaeology camp enables students who have completed 3rd-6th grade to use the science of archaeology to learn more about the history of Fort Frederica. Camp hours are from 9:00-1:00 and our activities include:
Learning archaeology basics
Excavating at the education dig site
Working in an archaeology lab to identify artifacts
Colonial life activities
Colonial crafts
Colonial games
Archaeology Camp-Beginners This camp is for Students who have completed 3rd-5th Grade
Campers will receive an introduction to archaeology and learn about the importance of archaeology and preserving our historic resources. The students will practice their archaeology skills daily at the Archaeology Education Dig Site and learn how to analyze artifacts. Fun and educational archaeology activities will take place each day as we learn more about our past. Each camper receives a T-shirt at the end of the week. Campers will need to provide their own lunch.
This session is limited to 25 campers. Fee -$50
Archaeology Camp-Advanced This camp is for students who have completed 4th-6th grade and attended a previous archaeology camp
This camp is eligible to those students who participated in a previous archaeology camp at Fort Frederica. Campers will work at our education dig site and lab but will also be able to participate in an actual excavation taking place on the grounds of Fort Frederica. This camp will involve more advanced skills and learning. Each camper receives a T-shirt at the end of the week. Campers will need to provide their own lunch.
This session is limited to 20 campers. Fee-$50

Cost: $50 per camper; payment is required when submitting the reservation in order to reserve your camper’s spot. The reservation is not complete or even submitted until the payment is made.
Other
The camp is staffed by Ellen Provenzano, a veteran teacher from our community who also works at Fort Frederica. In addition, Fort volunteers and interns, NPS archaeologists, and National Park Service staff will be assisting with camp.
A snack will be provided each day.
Campers should bring their own lunch, refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and bug repellent.
